The Belvidere Plain Revisited

Dear Falmouth Friends,

Now is the time for you to send me all photographs, letters, facts and artifacts that you would like to have included in the history of the Belvidere Plain in Falmouth, Massachusetts, Part Two. I have cleared my desk of all the projects that have been blocking my way to working on this updated edition. My request goes out to families who have been on the Plain for 100 years as well as those who have just arrived.

The items you could send include old postcards, family portraits, pictures of places, letters, family trees, newspaper clippings, an organization's Minutes of Meetings, obituaries, birth and wedding announcements, invitations, architectural drawings, and so forth.

The attached view shows what I believe to be a view of Falmouth Heights from the Belvidere Plain. If so, it is the earliest photograph that I have ever seen of the Plain, dating before 1871 when development of the Heights and the Plain began.

Please let me know if I may interview you for the book either in person or on the telephone. If several of you are interested in helping me with copy editing, proofreading, or checking index entries, I could always use your assistance.Finally, I can promise you three things: These items will be returned to you unharmed. They will always be presented in a positive light. Their memory will live on at the Library of Congress until the next Great Flood.

The book's title will be: "The Belvidere Plain Revisited." It will be published under the ISBN Number 978-0-9788167-5-9. The number of pages contained in this revision will be double what appeared in the first edition, or approximately 380 pages -- thanks to all of materials many of you have since contributed to my effort. The First Edition had a printing of 244 copies all of which have now been spoken for. I have only my personal copies remaining. The Second Edition will be printed in a limited numbered edition of 350 copies. A Gentleman's Guide To The Belvidere Plain in Falmouth, Massachusetts

My latest book was published and made available for sale on August 10, 2006. It is a monograph on the history of a seaside community in Falmouth, Mass. known as Belvidere Plain. This is a history of Belvidere Plain; its people, history, and homes. The work has been printed in softcover. It contains 175 pages. There are more than 100 photographs in the book, of scenes both new and old. All but a handful of the homes on the Plain have been catalogued and photographed. It measures 8-1/4 x 8-1/4 and includes a foldout map of the early development. Several old-timers have been interviewed for their personal histories and early memories of Belvidere Plain.

This monograph is presented in the first person as a guide and can be carried with you as you walk up and down the local streets. It has been written in an old-fashioned style. It has been many years in the making and includes some of my notes dating back to 1972. I have lived in Falmouth since 1965. Please let me know if you have any questions.
